The church is located at Southover, Wells, Somerset,BA5 1UG.
The earliest mention of a Methodist Society in Wells is a reference
by John Wesley in July 1739 that he "Writ to a Society newley formed in Wells". John is reported to have visited Wells on three occasions,
including a joint with his brother Charles. The present site was bought by the local society in 1838 and a small chapel was built
shortly after. This building was extended and altered several times untill 1865 when the present doric front was added. After the
purchase of two adjacent cottages the schoolroom was added in 1881.
As part of a redecorating scheme gas lighting was introduced to
the church in 1924, and was itself replaced by electric lighting in 1948. In 1989 major alterations were made to the church and the
The early history of the site shows that in 1200 a building, assumed to be a chapel, was erected and dedicated to St Etheldreda
and later to Thomas a' Becket. This building was demolished in 1547. Sometime after 1647 a meeting house for the use of Protestant
Dissentors was built on the site with space for a Burying Place for the dissenters.

Morning worship is held at 10.30 am, this is followed by a time of fellowship with tea, coffee and biscuits.
Evening worship is held at 6.30 pm.
Holy Communion is offered on one Sunday morning and one Sunday evening each month.

The Bright Hour meets on Thursday
afternoons at 2.45 in the schoolroom.
Re-Activate, a group of 11 to 13 year old young people, meet on the first and third Mondays
of each month from 7.00 to 8.30 pm. For details please ring 01749-671846.
Informal Worship and Prayer called "First Friday" on
the first friday of each month at 7.45pm.
Coffee mornings are held for Church funds and for selected charities on the second saturday
of each month, 10am to 12 noon, in the schoolroom.
Sunbeams Pre-School is affilliated to the Church, meeting on the premises every
day during school term time, catering for children from 2 to 5yrs.
Guides, 1st and 2nd Brownies and Rainbows meet
weekly on the premises.
